Featured faculty members include Dr. Jonathan Shay, author of Achilles in Vietnam and Odysseus in America; Benjamin Busch, combat veteran, actor, director, poet, and author of Dust to Dust: A Memoir; Carlton Ken, 16th Command Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps; Dr. James Marten, former president of the Society of Civil War Historians and author of many books to include Sing Not War: Civil War Veterans in Gilded Age America; Dr. Paul Quigley, director of the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies; Dr. Edward Fox, co-author of Theoretical Foundations for Digital Libraries; Donna Musil, American documentary filmmaker, writer and activist exploring the subculture of military families.

Dr. Jim Dubinsky and Dr. Bruce Pencek are the co-directors; they are the leaders of the Veterans in Society initiative at Virginia Tech and have coordinated and led three conferences thus far.
